Roecliffe WI - Press Report for October 2013

Passionate and knowledgeable about his subject, Mark Jackson was invited to our October meeting to give an insight into plans for the new border at Newby Hall which will be completed in sections over the next couple of years.  Mark is the Head Gardner and it falls on him to keep the plans on time and liaise between what the family would like and what is achievable, another facet of this major project.

We were shown slides of what we all know and love about the present borders, but we can appreciate from our own gardens that there is a time for drastic action to be take on those beloved plants that have grown beyond their best and need replacing, damage done by excesses of weather (think the winter of 2010) and the balance overall.

We are looking forward to visiting Newby Hall in the future to appreciate either the work in progress or the finished border in all its glory.

During the meeting Ann Green our President welcomed a new Member Pauline Blamire and visitor Rene.  Helen Davison has put a team together for the Federation Quiz – good luck for the first round.

Elaine and Anne have volunteered to be models at the Boroughbridge Group Meeting fashion show.

Preparation is being made for our AGM in November when three of the present committee members have decided to stand down and Ann our President and Jill our hard working Secretary wish to relinquish these duties.  After the AGM we have Dawn Webster the Curator at Kiplin Hall coming to give a talk.  Still lots to look forward to before the year ends.
