Our Meetings
How are Ingleborough WI meetings organised?
· Ingleborough WI meet in the Community Centre in Ingleton on the second Monday of the month at 7.30pm.
· There is disabled access at ground floor level and a sound system for the hard of hearing.
· Members are given a membership card with the year’s programme, committee member’s names and their contact details, competition titles, as well as a rota for refreshments, raffle ticket sales and vote of thanks. Member’s details are also added to the national WI database (MCS).
· On arrival, members are greeted and marked down on the register. They are asked if they would like to buy a raffle ticket at 20p and another 20p is collected if they would like a drink during the meeting.
· Usually the speaker gives their talk, followed by a refreshments interval and then a business meeting chaired by the President, with reports from the Secretary and Treasurer, etc. Minutes of the meeting are distributed by email but a paper copy is available on request.
· Cards are sent to members who are in hospital and on their notable birthdays.
· There is a competition each month so ladies can bring an object linked to the theme of the talk which is judged by the guest speaker. Every entrant receives a point, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd places are awarded 4, 3 and 2 points respectively. Points are added up during the year and a prize is awarded at the Presentation Dinner, as are the Handicraft Show Cups.
· Table Cloth: Ingleborough WI has a white tablecloth on which members have embroidered their names throughout the years.
· Signing up sheets: Sheets attached to clipboards are left at the back of the room for all members to sign up for local, regional and national courses, workshops, visits, as well as travel and food arrangements.
· Each year in December, an Annual Meeting is held. Reports are presented and the President and committee members are elected.
· Fundraising: Events include a Jumble Sale to raise funds for local projects and the provision of refreshments for the annual Ingleton Gala. Members are also encouraged to bring and buy magazines in aid of the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW). This charity, which is linked to The United Nations, aims to raise the standard of living and improve the health of women and their families worldwide.
